  BELLINGHAM — A jackknifed semi-truck caused an hour-long backup on southbound Interstate 5 that backed up traffic more than a mile just south of Lakeway Drive on Wednesday, Dec. 28.

  The truck lost control about 12:30 p.m. and ended up facing north in the southbound lanes. No other cars were involved in the crash, and there no injuries, according to early reports.

  Drivers were advised to avoid the area. Crews had removed the truck and cleared the traffic by about 1:45 p.m.

  A Moses Lake man was injured after reportedly losing control of his truck and crashing into a guardrail on Highway 17 near Mesa early Wednesday, the Washington State Patrol said.

  Raoul Jiminez, 43, was driving a 2010 Kenworth tractor southbound at 5:50 a.m. when he lost control.

  He was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, troopers said. The hospital had no patient by that name admitted Wednesday.

  An SUV crashed into an ambulance Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 1, near Ferndale, sending both firefighters and the SUV driver to the hospital.

  The North Whatcom Fire and Rescue ambulance was returning from a call about 3:25 p.m. when a Ford Edge ran through a stop sign at the intersection of Kickerville and Bay roads, clipping the ambulance, said North Whatcom Division Chief Henry Hollander.

  The collision whipped the ambulance 180 degrees and sent it careening into a ditch on Bay Road. The crash crumpled the driver’s side of the SUV and smashed its windshield.
