Semi-truck fire blocks I-5 southbound near Samish Way

BELLINGHAM — Traffic was quickly backing up along southbound Interstate 5 near Samish Way Friday, Jan. 27, because of a semi-truck fire.

Firefighters were quickly on scene and putting out the fire, but they had to shut down the southbound lanes.

Traffic had backed up past Lakeway Drive by 1:25 p.m., about 10 minutes after the fire had been reported.

It appeared no one was injured; no details on the fire were immediately available.
