Kortney Grattic scored at least 18 points for the seventh consecutive game to lead the Lynden girls' basketball team to a 65-55 Northwest Conference victory against host Squalicum on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
Lynden (11-4, 6-2 NWC) bounced back after seeing its four-game winning streak came to an end against Sehome on Jan. 23.
Squalicum (1-14, 1-7) trailed 32-20 at halftime, but a rejuvenated second-half effort brought the Storm to within seven in the fourth quarter. Lynden quickly hit a reversal 3-pointer to push the lead back to 10.
"We really challenged them at halftime and they responded well," Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "They have been fighting like crazy to be competitive and they're learning what it takes to do that."
Grattic's 18 points led all scorers. Amber Stokes had eight points and 10 rebounds, while Kelsey Bouwman and Stephanie Somers each had 10 points.
Lauren Eckert led Squalicum with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.
Squalicum travels to Mount Baker next at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, while Lynden hosts Anacortes at 7:30 p.m. the same day.
