Evan Coulter scored 20 points to go with 10 rebounds and three assists and the fourth-ranked Whatcom Community College men's basketball team upset No. 1 Bellevue College on the road 77-75 in an NWAACC North Division game Monday, Jan. 23, to move into sole possession of first place.
Whatcom (14-2, 6-0) catapulted Bellevue, which entered the game undefeated in divisional play, in the North Division standings for the top spot with the win.
"Anytime you can go to Bellevue and get a win it's a good win," Whatcom coach Chris Scrimsher said in a phone interview. "Then with something like this on the line it's even bigger."
Coulter's big game was paired with Will Perry's double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Derek Dickerson scored 17 points, nine from the 3-point line, and Patrick Voeut had 16. Zach Stalin scored 11.
The Orcas pulled off the road victory without starting big man Marcus Bagnerise, who missed the game after suffering a hamstring injury against Skagit Valley on Jan. 21.
Tre Benton led Bellevue with 16 points.
