COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Whatcom falls to Bellevue on road

The shorthanded Whatcom Community College women's basketball team lost 79-53 at Bellevue in NWAACC North Division action on Monday, Jan. 23.

The loss dropped the Orcas to 8-8, 3-3 North while Bellevue improved to 12-4, 4-1 North.

Whatcom played the game with just seven players and was down by just one point at half at 36-35. The Orcas were outscored 43-18 in the second half.

"We were able to play with them tough in the first half," Whatcom coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview. "The second half they just tired us out."

Kariah Kussman led the Orcas with 21 points while Erika Locker and Cambie Edwards each had nine points.

Bellevue: Courtney Batts, Monica Olivas 2, DeMarea Caples 5, Kelsey Sparks 19, Anna Hobby, Tyshana Burgess 9, Jordyn Ohrt, Taylor Wofford 7, Sanda Milovic 11, Brittany Barrington 17, Ashley Page, Corinna VanHurston 9. Team totals: 32-71 7-8 79.

Half: Bellevue 36, Whatcom 35.
