MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Dickerson's seven 3s lift Whatcom over Skagit

Derek Dickerson hit 7-of-9 3-pointers for 25 points, as the Whatcom Community College men's basketball team had little trouble with rival Skagit Valley on its way to a 95-56 in an NWAACC North Division game on Saturday, Jan. 21, to improve for its fifth straight division victory.

Dickerson came off a season-best 39-point performance against Shoreline on Jan. 14 when he drilled nine 3-pointers, with another top-notch shooting display on Saturday.

"They scouted him well, too," Whatcom coach Chris Scrimsher said in a phone interview. "They saw his performance last game and they face-guarded him the first half. We ran some plays for him, though, and he got his shot off."

Evan Coulter scored 17 points, while Marcus Bagnerise and Chris Tanis each had 12. Whatcom built a 51-27 lead at halftime.

Whatcom improved to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in the North Division.

WCC next plays at Bellevue at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23.
