PREP SPORTS: Winter weather wrecks havoc on schedule again; LC-Ferndale girls still expected to play at 5 p.m.

Another chilly day — another day of cancellations in the Northwest Conference.

For the fifth straight day, a series of winter storms and freezing temperatures has sent high school athletic directors scrambling to rework high school sports schedules.

Every NWC sporting event scheduled for Friday evening had been postponed or cancelled, except for one. The lone remaining game is a girls’ basketball game between Lynden Christian and Ferndale, which has been shifted to a 5 p.m. tip-off at Ferndale High School.

The icy road conditions around the region even have had an impact on the slate for Saturday, Jan. 21. The Mount Baker boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams have already called off their trips to Spokane for Saturday’s Dream Duals tournament, while the Sehome Invitational gymnastics meet has been postponed to a yet undetermined date. Bellingham’s boys’ basketball game at Burlington-Edison and its girls’ basketball game at home against the Tigers on Saturday have also been delayed until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23.

Many of Friday’s events have already been rescheduled, and here is a sport-by-sport look at those changes, as they stand now:

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

* Sedro-Woolley at Anacortes: Rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27.

* Nooksack Valley at Mount Vernon: Rescheduled for noon Saturday, Jan. 28.

* Burlington-Edison at Lynden: Rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.

*Meridian at Lynden Christian: Reschedule date not yet set.

NOTE: Squalicum’s game at Meridian has been rescheduled to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 1.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

* Lynden Christian at Ferndale: Game still on, moved to 5 p.m. start.

* Mount Vernon at Nooksack Valley: Rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23.

* Bellingham at Mount Baker: Rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.

* Meridian at Squalicum: Rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1.

* Blaine at Sehome: Rescheduled for 2 p.m. Feb. 4.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

* Mount Vernon at Squalicum: Rescheduled for 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center.

NOTE: Lynden’s non-conference dual meet against Archbishop Murphy on Thursday, Jan. 26 has been cancelled. Lynden’s NWC meet at Anacortes has been rescheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at Fidalgo Pool.

GIRLS’ WRESTLING

* Lynden at Sedro-Woolley: Reschedule date not yet set.
