Drivers who are venturing out across Whatcom County Friday morning, Jan. 20, need to be careful as the roads remain slick and are getting worse in places because of freezing rain and melting ice.

Drivers have reported crashes around the county, including a car losing control on Lakeway Drive near Oriental and hitting a bus, and a car smashed up along Cordata Parkway north of Whatcom Community College.

Authorities are again asking people to stay off the roads if possible or take a Whatcom Transporatation Authority bus. WTA reported all buses were on regular routes Friday morning, with no significant delays. Riders are advised to dress warmly for waits at bus stops.

With schools still closed, drivers also need to watch out for children playing or sledding.
