Sara Dougan scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Meridian girls' basketball team to a 66-46 victory against visiting Sedro-Woolley on Friday, Jan. 13, for its first Northwest Conference win of the season.

Dougan, a 6-foot-3 freshman, scored 20 points while sitting the entire fourth quarter. A welcome sight to Meridian coach Don McMains, as it meant his team was on its way to finally earning an NWC victory.

"This was absolutely a big deal for our kids," McMains said in a phone interview. "The kids had been working really hard and we played several really positive games in a row."

Ali Wasel scored 12 points for the Trojans and Carly nelson added 10. Every Meridian player who entered the game also scored.

Meridian improved to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in the NWC. Sedro-Woolley remains winless at 0-13 overall and 0-6 in conference.

Meridian hosts Lynden Christian next at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.
