The Squalicum boys swim team suffered its first loss of the season as the Storm fell to Anacortes 116-72 in a Northwest Conference meet Thursday, Jan. 12, at Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes.
"(We) performed extremely well this meet," Squalicum coach Angie Dowdle said in a phone interview. "We knew it was going to be a hard meet, because Anacortes had a lot of fast swimmers. Our goal was to swim fast and get district qualifying times. We came close in a lot of (races), which helps our team out in the end. It was a lot of fun to swim against a lot of fast swimmers."
The Storm won a total of three events.
Rylan Korby took first in diving with a score of 162.65, Westy Summerton won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 3.36 seconds and Gus Evans won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.24.
"We had a lot of standout swimmers in our relays," Dowdle said. "Hans Kogan is becoming very fast for our team. He was in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. Westy's back I was very pleased with."
Squalicum's next swim meet is against Mount Vernon at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center.
