ACME - The Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association and Whatcom Land Trust are holding a work party on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, to improve salmon habitat along Landingstrip Creek, a tributary of the Nooksack River's south fork.

Volunteers will plant native trees and shrubs along the restoration site.

From Mount Baker Highway, travel south on Highway 9 for about 7 miles, then turn left onto Rothenbuhler Road, cross the railroad tracks and look for signs on the right.

Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

Snow is in the forecast, so check the association's website, n-sea.org, after 8 a.m. Monday for any change in plans. The work party might be canceled if there is significant snowfall.
