The Bellingham boys' basketball team wasn't able to duplicate its performance in a win against Squalicum its previous game as it fell 63-55 in Northwest Conference action against visiting Ferndale on Tuesday, Jan. 10, for its 10th loss of the season
The Red Raiders (2-10, 1-4 NWC) earned their first conference victory 51-50 against Squalicum on Jan. 6 and looked to continue that run Tuesday.
But Daniel Canzater led Ferndale (11-2, 3-2) with a season-high 21 points and the Golden Eagles took advantage with their size inside. Chad Hunt added 16 points and Aiden Sands had 15.
"The good part is we know we can compete in every game," Bellingham coach Ken Crawford said in a phone interview. "We beat one of the top teams in the state against Squalicum, but Ferndale is big and physical and they went to their strength inside."
Bellingham trailed by three points with three minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Ferndale hit 11 of 14 free throws in the final quarter to pull away at the end. Ferndale beat Bellingham 65-47 on Dec. 1.
Kyle Redmond paced Bellingham with 13 points and Alex Check added 10.
Bellingham travels to Sehome next at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, while Ferndale hosts Squalicum at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.
