Kortney Grattic scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Lynden girls' basketball team to a 59-49 Northwest Conference victory against visiting Meridian on Thursday, Jan. 5,
Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview he stressed to Grattic before the game to play a big game and it clearly paid dividends.
"She definitely carried the load for us," Adams said. "I've been challenging Kortney with playing a full 32 minutes and obviously she did that."
Grattic's performance allowed the Lions (8-3, 3-1 NWC) to overcome Meridian's quality post players in Sara Dougan and Ali Wasel. Wasel scored 18 points, while Dougan had 17 points, nine rebounds and three 3-pointers.
It wasn't enough to lift Meridian (2-7, 0-4) to the victory, as the Trojans remain winless in conference play and dropped their third straight game.
Meridian travels to Friday Harbor next at noon on Saturday, Jan. 7, while Lynden heads to Lynden Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.
