In addition to accepting Christmas trees for disposal, Green Earth Technology in Lynden and RDS Disposal in Ferndale are providing their services to the Boy Scouts for free.

Members of the public may dispose of their Christmas trees for free at Green Earth Technology, 774 Meadowlark Road, until Friday, Jan. 13. The fee after that date is $1. Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. The trees are used to make compost.

Green Earth also grinds and composts all of the trees picked up by Boy Scouts in the north county, said Stephanie Harvey, a company representative.

RDS Disposal, 4916 LaBounty Drive, takes Christmas trees for a nominal fee, in addition to recycling trees for the Boy Scouts at no cost to them.

The recycling center and transfer station at 1001 Roeder Ave., Bellingham, also accepts trees less than 8 feet tall for a $6 fee. Another place to drop off Christmas trees is Nooksack Valley Disposal, for a $2 fee.
