I have heard many comments in Bellingham from locals complaining about the Canadian shoppers who come through our fair city. These comments often turn into thinly veiled racist comments, which I find very disturbing and interesting coming from what a community many think is open-minded.
This might be interesting to pursue, especially during the holiday shopping season. Our economy prospers due to our northern neighbors; we should thank them for helping pay into our tax coffers.
I personally just avoid shopping on Meridian until after the holidays (from Thanksgiving until after Christmas). This keeps me from the stressful parking lots and packed stores. I know other locals go south to shop instead of going to our local Meridian stores in order to avoid the northerners.
I have many Canadian friends, and love living so close to a metropolitan area. I wonder if others just don't think through the benefits.
