Cambie Edwards had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Whatcom Community College women's basketball team to a 56-49 victory against Big Bend on Thursday, Dec. 29, at the Lower Columbia Tournament.
Whatcom committed 24 turnovers to Big Bend's 14, but held a significant advantage in its shooting percentage. The Orcas shot 49 percent from the field in large part because of its significant height advantage on the low block.
Big Bend shot 30 percent from the field.
"We had the advantage inside and we fed our post players," Whatcom coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview. "We got some easy buckets and that was the major difference in our team and their team."
Allie Holtermand and Kariah Kussman each scored nine points for the Orcas, Erika Locker had eight and Alisha Fribert added six points and seven rebounds.
