BELLINGHAM - The city's trail system will grow by more than 850 feet this summer, when the parks department builds a gravel connector along the Moore-Racine Trail in the Barkley neighborhood.

Once completed, the trail will extend east from Orleans Street, turning south to meet Barkley Boulevard. Construction is tentatively scheduled for early July 2012.

The estimated cost of the trail connector is $100,000 to $175,000, city project engineer Gina Austin said. Developers who built in the neighborhood paid park impact fees to cover the cost of the project.
