BOW - Golden Glen Creamery has voluntarily recalled 89 containers of raw-cream butter sold in six Seattle-area stores after a sample of the product was found to be contaminated with listeria.

The butter was distributed in 4-ounce containers for sale at Whole Foods Market in Redmond and Metropolitan Market stores. They are labeled "Herbes de Provence Butter" or "Northwest Mushroom Trio Butter."

The products are no longer on store shelves, Golden Glen manager Brandy Jensen said. Anyone who purchased these products is asked to destroy them or return them to the store for a refund.

There have been no illnesses from the contamination, according to a press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Adminsitration issued Saturday, Dec. 3.

Golden Glen has shut down production as it works with the FDA and the state Department of Agriculture to investigate the cause of the contamination. Only aged cheeses are currently available for sale, Jensen said.

"We have complete confidence we should be back up and running in the next week or two," Jensen said. "We're taking this very seriously, and we want to make sure we're doing everything we can do to get this resolved."

Listeria infection can be fatal to infants, the elderly and others with compromised immune systems.
