SUDDEN VALLEY - Organizers are holding a fundraiser Saturday, Dec. 3, to raise some of the $300,000 needed to bring a Whatcom County Library branch to Sudden Valley.
So far, nearly $50,000 has been raised toward remodeling an old barn into new library space. A lease was signed about a month ago for a 6,500-square-foot barn in Sudden Valley, with the understanding that it would be renovated and able to function as a library by the end of 2014.
At Saturday's fundraiser, donated Christmas decorations and baked goods will be for sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sudden Valley Holiday Craft Faire, in the Dance Barn, 8 Barnview Court.
An anonymous donor recently pledged to match up to $5,000 in donations through February 2012.
Donations can also be made through PayPal at the Friends of the Sudden Valley Library website, suddenvalleylibrary.org, or by mailing a check to 1941 Lake Whatcom Blvd., B3, Box 146, Bellingham, WA 98229.
Sudden Valley is currently served twice a week by the Whatcom County Library System's bookmobile.
