Last year: Finished 11th in the Northwest Conference standings with a 4-9 mark in conference games. Did not advance to the postseason with a 8-12 record overall.

Outlook: Though Crawford takes over the program, this marks his third stint as head coach at Bellingham. "Old coach with a new program and a new staff," he said in a phone interview. Crawford won't be the only new face on the bench, as the Red Raiders graduated seven seniors off last year's team, including the top two scorers from last year. Alex Check (9.7 points per game) is the top returner, but Zender (3.5) saw extensive varsity playing time, as well. Crawford said he really wants the team to focus on being efficient on offense and utilize transition opportunities when they present themselves. He and his staff also are focusing on defense and rebounding on a team that figures to look much different in February than it does before Christmas. "It's kind of the old adage about wanting to make sure the cake comes out of the oven at the right time," Crawford said. "We want to be playing our best in January and February." Thus far, Crawford said he's been pleased with how the team is picking up his way of doing things.
