JACK CARVER, PHOTOGRAPHER
"Delivered Daily: The News Photography of Jack Carver," runs Nov. 19 through March 25 in the second-floor gallery of Whatcom Museum's Lightcatcher building, 250 Grand Ave.
Carver was a Bellingham Herald photographer from October 1945 to August 1981. The exhibition features images selected from Carver's remarkable legacy of 50,000 negatives and 20,000 original prints. His high-resolution images document more than three decades of Whatcom County life.
In conjunction with the exhibit, 12 of Carver's photographs of the Blossom Time Festival, which he documented every May for 25 years beginning in 1947, will show in the Lightcatcher mezzanine.
HOLIDAY TREASURES
Western Washington University's Concert Choir, led by Leslie Guelker-Cone, returns for its annual holiday show with Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, directed by Roger Briggs.
The performance, filled with beloved holiday melodies, traditional carols and special surprises, starts at 3 p.m. Dec. 4 at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St. The concert concludes with the traditional candlelit "Silent Night."

SURVIVING A STROKE
VB Reads: Engaged Citizens Book Group - one of Village Books' community book discussion groups - will talk about Jill Bolte Taylor's bestselling biography, "My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey."
Taylor chronicles how she, a brain scientist, survived a massive stroke, and details her eight-year recovery that brought both blessings and revelations about the power of the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Everyone is welcome to participate or just listen to the discussion, which starts at noon Dec. 21 at Village Books, 1200 11th St.

ARTFUL SEASON
Allied Arts' Annual Holiday Festival of the Arts runs through Dec. 24 at 3548 Meridian St., across from Bellingham Golf and Country Club. The six-week festival features work by more than 100 local artisans and craftspeople and offers affordable handmade products ranging from jewelry and paintings to wearable art and specialty foods.
The festival will be open weekly, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, with a special session the evening of Dec. 2 to meet the artists. The festival will be open Dec. 20-21 for last-minute holiday shopping, but will close on Thanksgiving and at 3 p.m. Dec. 24.
Weekends at the festival feature activities including live local music, artists in action and art projects for kids. Admission is free. Details: 360-676-8548 or alliedarts.org.
FLYING HIGH
The Skagit Eagle Festival 2012 takes place each weekend in January, with activities in Concrete, Rockport and Marblemount during the peak of eagle-watching season in eastern Skagit County. A schedule of events is online at concrete-wa.com/skagit-eagle-festival-2011.
The festival offers free tours, walks and educational programs about the majestic birds and the beautiful areas along the Skagit River where they return each year.
