In its final match before it travels to the NWAACC Tournament, the Whatcom Community College volleyball team swept Edmonds 25-11, 25-22, 25-10 on its home court on Tuesday, Nov. 8, to win its fifth consecutive match.
Kaitie Brush led the Orcas with eight kills and two blocks, Brittney DeJager had 23 assists and nine digs, while Emily Jovanovich had eight kills and five aces.
Whatcom (19-16, 6-4) secured the No. 4 seed out of the NWAACC North Division to the tournament. It faces No. 2-ranked Spokane Falls in its first match at 9 a.m. on Nov. 17 in Gresham, Ore.
"We have been playing really strong as the end of the season has come about," said Whatcom coach Jeff McDonald in a phone interview. "We have been looking good just as the postseason is coming up. It's definitely coming together."
In the two matches Spokane and Whatcom faced against each other this season, Spokane won both in straight sets. Since then, however, the Orcas have bounced back to win six of their past seven matches.
