Western Washington University senior defender Alicia Patten was a first-team choice for the third straight year to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer all-star team announced today.

Patten was one of four Vikings selected to the first team. Also picked were junior goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs, senior midfielder Justina MacDowell and senior defender Emily Warman.

WWU senior forward Emily Frankland was named to the second team and receiving honorable mention were senior midfielder Megan Chapin, freshman midfielder Kim Cooper and sophomore midfielder Brina Sych.

Patten, Arthurs and Warman played major roles as the Vikings had a 0.59 goals against average and 11 shutouts, both league-leading figures.

It was the second straight year that Arthurs had a school record-tying 11 shutouts, ending the season with a scoreless streak of 476 minutes and 43 seconds. She had a GNAC-best 0.55 GAA, with 44 saves and a .815 save percentage.

MacDowell had four goals and one assist, three of the goals being game winners, and Frankland led WWU with five goals and 11 points.

Chapin had three goals and tied for the team lead with four assists. Cooper had two assists and Sych had four goals and two assists.

WWU, coached by Travis Connell (9 years, 101-55-19), finished 10-5-3 overall and tied for second in the GNAC at 9-4-1. The Vikings were unbeaten in their last five games (4-0-1), not allowing a goal during that stretch.

Seattle Pacific midfielder Kelsey Jenkins was selected Player of the Year by the GNAC coaches, and Falcons' teammate Taylor Sawyer was voted Defensive Player of the Year.

Western Oregon midfielder Lindsay Bauman was the Newcomer of the Year, and sharing Freshman of the Year honors were Seattle Pacific midfielder Riley Dopps and Saint Martin's forward Ashley Richardson.

Seattle Pacific's Chuck Sekyra and Central Washingon's Michael Farrand were voted co-Coaches of the Year.
