Down 1-0 in the dwindling moments of Whatcom Community College's women's soccer match against first place Everett Community College, Orca Daisha Zwick put a ball past the Everett goalkeeper as Whatcom tied Everett 1-1 Saturday, Oct. 29, at Kasch Park in Everett.

After Everett scored in the 66th minute to take the lead, WCC coach Claire Morgan said Everett did everything in its power to sit on its lead.

"We had the ball in their side of the field the majority of the second half," Morgan said in a phone interview. "Once they scored their goal, they really bunkered down. They only had one player in front of the ball and played nine players back."

Everett's lone goal occurred after Whatcom goalie Allie Holperman made an error that caused a free kick. But Morgan said Holperman made up for her mistake with great play throughout the rest of the match.

"(Holperman) made a fantastic save later in the game," Morgan said. "It was the best save I've seen all season. We were pressing the entire game. We kept going at them, but we couldn't put it away."

Whatcom's next match is against Shoreline Community College 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 2, at Orca Field.
