The Whatcom Community College men's soccer team scored two goals in the final 15 minutes of its match against Everett Community College, as the Orcas blanked ECC 2-0 Saturday, Oct. 29, at Kasch Park in Everett.
"We came out in the first 10 to 15 minutes of the game and played extremely well," WCC coach Joel Grossman said in a phone interview. "The longer we battled into the second half, the more we started to figure them out."
Whatcom's Adrian Tarkington scored the Orcas' first goal in the 78th minute and Brent Ahrens scored WCC's final goal in the 87th minute.
Grossman credited the shutout to strong defenisive play from Tai Song, Ivan Ocampo, Dalton Rockwell and Tarkington, and said that the quartet has been a staple for the Orcas all season.
"We dominated the match," Grossman said. "They were pushing at a few points in the game and got a few shots, but (goalkeeper) Carlos Alvarez was solid back there."
The Orcas next match is against Shoreline Community College 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Orca Field.
