When the weather cooperates, now is the time to get out and enjoy the fall colors.

For folks headed east on Interstate 90, the hillsides and mountains in the Snoqualmie Pass area are blazing with yellows, oranges and reds.

At Mount Rainier National Park, visitors to Paradise can still see some of the last wildflower blossoms, mixed with the autumn palette of vine maples, huckleberry, aspen and larch.

In the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, the drive along Skate Creek Road from Ashford to Packwood is a favorite fall color day trip.

Along the west side of Hood Canal, take a drive up Forest Road 25 (the Hamma Hamma River Road). You can also hunt for mushrooms on Olympic National Forest lands.

You can call the U.S. Forest Service fall color hot line at 800-354-4595 for regular updates. Press No. 6 for reports from national forests in Washington and Oregon.
