South Sound residents will have plenty of opportunities to catch the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour. The Tacoma, Olympia and Seattle branches of the Mountaineers will host showings this fall.
The world tour features some of the best films from the November film festival. Each year, the tour travels to 32 countries reaching almost 250,000 people at 635 screenings. This year’s festival is Oct. 29-Nov. 6.
The films shown at each venue will vary, chosen by the local organizers.
Here are the details of the Puget Sound showings:
Seattle: The tour comes to The Mountaineers Program Center Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The showings often sell out. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers, and can be purchased by calling 206-521-6001, or by visiting the program center, 7700 Sand Point Way N.E., Seattle.
Olympia: The tour stops at Olympia’s Capitol Theatre, 206 Fifth Ave. S.E., Dec. 3-4. Tickets are $13 for Dec. 3 and $11 for Dec. 4, or $22 for both nights. There is a $2 discount available for Sunday night single or two-night purchases to Mountaineers, Olympia Film Society members, students and military with ID. Tickets are available from The Alpine Experience & Olympic Outfitters or online through Brown Paper Tickets.
Tacoma: The tour comes to Tacoma’s Rialto Theatre Dec. 6. Tickets are $15, $13 for Mountaineers, University of Puget Sound students, faculty and staff with ID, and can be purchased from the Rialto box office, 901 Broadway, Tacoma, or call 253-591-5894 or 800-291-7593.
The tour is sponsored by National Geographic, The North Face and Parks Canada. Proceeds from the events will benefit The Mountaineers and support mission-based recreation, conservation and education efforts in the community.
