The Whatcom Community College volleyball team overcame a disappointing day one of pool play to finish in third place at the Spokane Crossover Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15.

After losing in straight sets to both Spokane Falls Community College and Highline Community College on Friday, the Orcas rebounded by beating Wenatchee Community College 3-0 in the third-fourth place match Saturday.

Orca setter Brittney DeJager, who played for Lynden Christian last season, was selected to the all-tournament team.

"The girls played so great against Wenatchee, and it ended up being a really good ride home for us," Whatcom coach Jeff McDonald said in a phone interview. "I think we gained a lot of confidence heading into our next few conference matches."

Next for the Orcas is a match against Everett Community College 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Whatcom.
