The Whatcom Community College women's soccer team got a pair of late goals from Melanie Patterson and Libby Hotson to break a tie game and claim a 3-1 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges victory at Shoreline on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Patterson scored off an assist from Tia Brogna in the 78th minute for the game-winner, while Hotson scored the clincher in extra time on a hustle play.
"We were putting pressure on them the entire game," Orcas coach Claire Morgan said in a phone interview. "We had several opportunities to score that we just missed converting on. I think the girls did a good job of not getting frustrated because we weren't scoring."
Lauren Frey, who was moved forward to the midfield from her normal center back position, got the first goal of the game in the sixth minute, but Shoreline came back to tie it.
WCC (5-4-3, 4-4-2 NWAAC) next hosts Skagit Valley College at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
