LETTER: Backs park levy in Blaine, Birch Bay

Posted: 12:01am on Oct 12, 2011; Modified: 8:48pm on Oct 12, 2011

Since its inception in 2007, the Northwest Park and Recreation District 2 has been busy creating family recreation opportunities for us all. Ranging from activities for our youth to our seniors and even our pets, the parks, trails, equipment, classes and venues provided are all part of this service.

In 2007 we voted for the first Northwest park levy, which ran from Jan. 1, 2008, to Dec. 31, 2009, and now needs to be renewed in order to continue implementation of planned projects such as the trail connecting Birch Bay with Blaine.

Encompassing solely the area within Blaine School District (excluding Point Roberts, which has its own park district) all monies generated by the levy stay in the Blaine and Birch Bay area. This is not a new tax but the reinstatement of the previously approved levy offering an opportunity for a truly positive investment in our community.

We were supportive then - let's be supportive again!

Vote yes on the Northwest Park and Recreation District 2 levy.
