Marissa Hielkema placed first for the Lynden Christian girls' cross country team in a time of 20 minutes and 17 seconds in a Northwest Conference meet Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Peace Arch Park.
Hielkema finished over a minute ahead of second-place Kiersten Sigfusson of Blaine. Sigfusson finished in 21:27.
The Lyncs had three runners place in the top 10, which included Emily Visser at fifth, and McKenzie Young at ninth.
Mount Baker was led by Rachael Hatcher, who placed third at 22:02. Kelsie Nern, Rayedeen Engels, Ashley Fulner and Katie Buss all finished in the top 10 for the Mountaineers.
Blaine coach Carey Bacon said in a phone interview Mount Baker won the girls' race as a team, while Lynden Christian placed second.
Both Blaine and Mount Baker head to Lakewood High School next for the Hole in the Wall Invite, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.
