Dillon Quintana took first place for the Mount Baker boys' cross country team, but Lynden Christian finished five runners in the top 10 to take first place as a team in a Northwest Conference meet Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Peace Arch Park.

Quintana finished in 17 minutes and 29 seconds. He edged Blaine's Eddie Fontes for the top finish by just five seconds.

But the Lyncs' Cody Velthuizen placed third, while Tyler Reardon was sixth, Jon Wiley was seventh, Hunter Weinert was eighth and Weston Whitener was 10th to edge Mount Baker as a team.

"I think that our league tends to be a very competitive league," Blaine coach Carey Bacon said in a phone interview. "There are lots of hard working kids, and they know they have to work especially hard to make it to the next level."

Both Blaine and Mount Baker head to Lakewood High School next for the Hole in the Wall Invite, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.
