Justina MacDowell scored two goals and Megan Chapin had a goal and two assists as Western Washington University rolled to a 4-1 win over Western Oregon University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Thursday, Sept. 29, at the WOU Soccer Field.

The four goals were a season high for the Vikings, all of them by players who had not scored previously this fall. WWU, which had just six goals in its first eight games, improved to 4-3-2 overall and 3-2-0 in GNAC action.

"Megan was an important player for us today with a goal and two assists and Justina had two goals off corner kicks," WWU coach Travis Connell said in a press release. "We've been so close on our free kicks, corner kicks and other restarts this season, and to get two goals off those is a good breakthrough for us. We needed to find a way to score on our restarts, so that is a good sign going forward."

The game's first four goals came in the first 29 minutes.

Chapin got WWU going, lofting a shot high into the net from 16 yards just 55 seconds into the game. Brina Sych got an assist.

MacDowell scored in the 19th and 23rd minutes, heading in corner kicks. Emily Frankland and Chapin were credited with assists.

WOU tallied its only goal in the 29th minute, Lindsay Bauman finding the net on a cross by JoEllen DeLeon.

WWU's Joana Houplin scored in the 82md minute on an assist by Chapin.

The Vikings had eight corner kicks to two for WOU, and WWU edged the Wolves in shots, 9-8.

WWU's victory was its 11th straight over the Wolves, putting the Vikings' series advantage at 23-5-0.
