Posted: 12:00am on Sep 29, 2011; Modified: 10:42am on Sep 30, 2011

A reminder from Whatcom Museum that its schedules and admission at Old City Hall, 121 Prospect St., and at the Lightcatcher, 250 Grand Ave., have been revised through Saturday, Oct. 1, due to changes in exhibits and the museum's Oct. 1 gala.

Admission is $5, but the Lightcatcher galleries are closed (the Family Interactive Gallery is open). Hours at Old City Hall and the Syre Education Center next door (which is usually open by appointment only) are noon to 5 p.m.

WOMEN'S CHORUS PERFORMS AT LEGION HALL

Cheryl Issacs, who directs Harmony Northwest Chorus - a barbershop chorus for women - sent me information about an upcoming concert, and news about her daughter, Erika, a 1997 Sehome High School graduate.

The 10th annual Harmony Northwest Chorus show, "Musical Memories a la Carte," will be at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the American Legion Hall, 1688 W. Bakerview Road. Both concerts are open to the public.

What excites Cheryl is that the featured ensemble is Seattle's LiveWire Quartet, in which her daughter performs as the bass singer. LiveWire will be in the final countdown to their trip to Houston in mid-October representing the Northwest Region of Sweet Adelines at the 65th annual International Convention and Competition.

Last year, LiveWire was the ninth-place quartet in the worldwide Sweet Adelines International Competition, held in Seattle. Erika has been in Sweet Adelines for over 20 years and started singing in a chorus with her mom.

Erika told me her daughter has associates degrees from Whatcom Community College and Bellingham Technical College and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in humanities at Western Washington University. When I asked Erika what LiveWire will perform in Houston, she said they'd be singing "Here Am I Brokenhearted" and "This Joint is Jumpin.'"

She says if they're lucky enough to make the top 10 out of the 49 quartets competing, they'll sing "If I Give My Heart to You" and "L-O-V-E." Both performances will be available to view via a webcast on the Sweet Adelines website, http://www.sweetadelineintl.org/webcast.cfm. SATURDAY SESSIONS KICK IN FOR FOLK DANCERS

The Fourth Corner Folk Dancers, who meet at 7:15 p.m. every Thursday at Fairhaven Library, kick off their monthly Saturday dances Oct. 1 at the library with music performed by Kafana Republic, a band that recreates the music of Eastern Europe.

Tali McGill, a classically trained musician who teaches voice and piano in Bellingham, is the principal singer in Kafana Republic. The band also features Michael Lawson and Steve Ramsey from Balkan Cabaret, as well as Ahmad Yousefbeigi, founding member of the Persian and Kurdish ensemble Kamand, and Peter Lippman, founder of the first Kalmar band in the Northwest.

For the Fourth Corner Dancers' Thursday dances, the Fourth Corner Folk Dance Band provides some of the music, and some comes from the group's collection of recorded ethnic music. All ages are welcome to the dances, and no partner or experience is necessary. A $5 donation is requested for the Thursday dances; free for first-timers and students. For this Saturday's dance, the suggested donation is $10 to $15. Details: 360-380-0456.
