Kennewick police nabbed a suspected car prowler and mail thief who tried to hide in a garage.

Police were called to investigate a report of a prowl in progress at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday at 603 S. Washington St.

A witness reported a man going through a vehicle in the fenced backyard, police said. Officers arrived and saw the suspect in the backyard at the home near a vehicle. When they contacted him, he fled into a garage on the property.

Officers found Florentino Castillo, 32, of Pasco, in the garage and arrested him.

Police also discovered mail stolen from other homes on South Washington Street.

Castillo was booked into Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary, vehicle prowl, two counts of mail theft and for five felony warrants.
