The Whatcom County Fire Marshal's Office is lifting the ban on outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county starting 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Wetter conditions mean that the county's fire danger level has dropped from moderate to low.

For forested areas under the jurisdiction of the Department of Natural Resources, the burn ban will be lifted Sept. 30.

A permanent ban on open burning remains in effect for the communities of Bellingham, Blaine, Ferndale, Lynden, Everson, Nooksack, Sumas, Birch Bay and Kendall, along with Cherry Point and cities' urban growth areas. More information is available from the Northwest Clean Air Agency, 800-622-4627 or nwcleanair.org.
