REC NOTEBOOK: Whatcom Seniors hold year-end tournament

The Whatcom Seniors Golf held its year-end Herm Stevens Championship Tournament on Sept. 19 and 20 at Avalon Golf Course.

A total of 100 players parcitipated and awards were given to the overall low gross and low net as well as low gross and net in six handicap flights.

Low gross champion: Jim Toomey 145.

Low net champion: Kurt Kolmos 134.

Flight A - Low gross: Ray Kent 153; Low net: Ben Denson 141.

Flight B - Low gross: Fred Warner 178; Low net: Jack Thompson.

Flight C - Low gross: Skip Nelson 175; Low net: Jim Rassat 142.

Flight D - Low gross: Harry Allison 180; Low net: Bob Garnett 140.

Flight E - Low gross: Mike Bame 187; Low net: Ken Faber 139.

LAKE PADDEN MEN'S CLUB RESULTS

Here are the Lake Padden Men's Club results for the "Three Ring Circus" on Saturday, Sept. 24:

HOLE-IN-ONE

Dean Carpenter had his sixth hole-in-one in his career on Saturday, Sept. 24. Carpenter used a seven iron on the 144-yard No. 16 hole at Lake Padden.

LAKE PADDEN EVENTS

The Lake Padden Trail Classic 13.1 Trail Race will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The race starts at Lake Padden and will make its way through the forested single track trails. Registration fee is $30 and the race is limited to 300 runners. To register go to ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=12351.

The Lake Padden Anna's Walk will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The event is a casual walk around Lake Padden with family and friends and designed to honor 2-year-old Anna Brulotte, who was killed by a Bellingham teenage driver, and bring awareness to the community about the dangers of distracted driving.

Both events will benefit the Anna Brulotte Foundation.

D-BLOCK HOOPS TRYOUTS

The D-Block Hoops AAU seventh-grade tryouts will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 5-7 at Kulshan Middle School.
