The scoreboard may have shown a 0-0 tie, but the Whatcom Community College women's soccer team feels like it got a win in its Northwest Athletic Association of Community College game at Bellevue College on Saturday, Sept. 24.
"Like I told the girls, I'm really proud of how they played," WCC coach Claire Morgan said in a phone interview. "Last year when WCC came down here to Bellevue, we lost 6-0. So this is more of a mental victory for us. ... There were chances on both sides, but I feel like we had the run of play for the majority of the game."
Allison Holterman made seven saves to pick up her fourth shutout of the season for the Orcas (3-1-2, 2-1-1 NWAACC), while converted defender Lauren Frey also had a strong game in shutting down fourth-ranked Bellevue.
"She played really well," Morgan said of Frey. "She has learned so much. She never played defense before (this season), and you wouldn't know if for watching her play."
WCC next hosts Olympic at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
