The Whatcom Community College men's soccer team got its first point of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges season when it recorded a 1-1 tie at Bellevue CC on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Adrian Tarkington got the Orcas (1-3-1, 0-2-1 NWAACC) on the board first when he scored on a free kick from about 25 yards out in the 30th minute, but Bellevue answered off a free kick of its own shortly before half.

"It was definitely good to get a point after a tough game, like we had on Wednesday," WCC coach Joel Grossman said in a phone interview. "I think our team was really frustrated after that one, but they came out and responded really well. They picked each other up out there and gave really good effort. We still wanted three points, but I think we're consistently getting better."

Grossman praised the play of center backs Ivan Ocampo and Tai Song on Saturday.

The Orcas next host Olympic at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
