Tommy Zabelka and Dallas Coble placed first and second, respectively, and led the Burlington-Edison boys' cross country team to a first-place finish in a Northwest Conference meet on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Northern State.

Burlington-Edison's 26 points were nine less than second-place Lynden Christian. Zabelka finished in 17 minutes and 24 seconds and Coble finished in 17:44.

Lynden Christian's Cody Velthuizen and Jon Wiley finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Tyler Reardon placed sixth and Weston Whitener was ninth as part of four Lyncs runners to finish in the top 10.

"I thought our guys got out and went after it," Lynden Christian coach Darren Postma said in a phone interview. "We knew it was going to be a good battle with Burlington."

Postma said his team was leading after the two-and-a-half-mile mark, but Burlington-Edison pulled away after that.

Lynden Christian's 35 points beat Sedro-Woolley's 67 for second place.

The Lyncs head to Silver Lake Park next to compete in the Mount Baker Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1.
