BELLINGHAM - A 63-year-old man was arrested on four counts of indecent exposure Sunday, Sept. 18, after allegedly leaving feces in the hallway of Bellis Fair mall on four occasions.

Bob B. Weatherby of Bellingham is accused of leaving feces near the entrance of a Whatcom Educational Credit Union branch next door to Target. Human excrement had been discovered in the area four times: July 8, Aug. 12 and 28, and Sept. 9.

After the final incident, police began investigating, said Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young. Officers discovered surveillance footage showing a man, later identified as Weatherby, using the hallway as a toilet during the mall's business hours.

"One video showed him actually squatting down and depositing it," Young said.

Another video showed him emptying it onto the floor from a paper sack.

When police confronted him at his Bellingham home, Weatherby cursed at officers and refused to provide a statement, Young said.

He was booked into Whatcom County Jail at 12:14 p.m. Sunday.
