With four players out with injuries, the Squalicum girls' soccer team looked to its top players to step up.

They did just that as Kylie Garrison scored a second-half goal and Lauren Eckert picked up the shutout, lifting the Storm over Burlington-Edison 1-0 in a non-conference match, Saturday, Sept. 10, at Burlington-Edison.

While without four key players, Squalicum's Garrison and Eckert were still sharp. Garrison scored her fourth goal of the season and Eckert had six saves in her second shutout of the year.

"Them and the rest of the girls really stepped up," Squalicum coach David Kish said in a phone interview. "We started off well and controlled the ball real well in the first half. Then our girls really finished strong."

Squalicum (2-1-0) hosts Lynden Christian its next match at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13.
