PREP GIRLS' SWIMMING PREVIEW: Squalicum Storm

Last year: Finished first in the Class 2A NWC standings with a conference record of 8-0 and was 10-0 overall. Qualifed 16 swimmers or relays for the Class 2A State Championships and won the state title for a second straight year. Carlee Bock won the Class 2A state title in the 100 backstroke. Bock, Rylie Martin, Leah Strickling and Camorah King won the Class 2A state title in the 400 freestyle relay. Bock, King, Strickling, Martin and Tori Franzen were All-Whatcom County Selections.

Outlook: The back-to-back Class 2A state champions provide little reason to believe Squalicum won't add a third straight title in 2011. Squalicum returns four key swimmers in Bock, Martin, King and Franzen. The Storm also have several new swimmers Gibb expects to be an integral part of the team. "The girls are very excited for the season," Gibb wrote in an e-mail. "They have some high goals and are excited for the season. Some other strong swimmers are Anna Hawes, Ali Steffan, Josephine Hegeberg, Kaitlin Doyle, Maddie Dohm and Alissa Thomas."
