REC NOTEBOOK: Barhanovich, Bennett top scorers at Bellingham Amateur

Brian Barhanovich had the top gross score and Doug Bennett had the top net score at the 2011 Bellingham Amateur on Monday, Sept. 5, at Lake Padden Golf Course.

Barhanovich had a gross score of 209 while Bennett had a net score of 206. Here are the result of the results:

Division 1 - First gross: Jacob Webb, 210; First net: Chris Bae, 211.

Division 2 - First gross: Claire Rachor, 229; First net: Mark Cockrell, 214.

Division 3 - First gross: Sebastian Moreno, 243; First net: George Hovanes, 207.

LOCAL HORSESHOWER HAS STRONG EVENT

Zanna Sullivan, of Bellingham, had a successful horseshowing at the 4-H State Fair last week.

Sullivan, 12, rode Zipa Bo Cephus and was the champion in jumping, reverse in dressage and stockseat. Sullivan has rode and trained with Kim Gard at HTH Farm in Bow for the past six months. Zipa Bo Cephus is owened by Jana Bouzek.

MOTORCYCLE RACER WINS EVENT

Brad Ludwigsen of Ferndale won the CMA 2-stoke youth 2011 national champion title after competing Aug. 27-28 in Agassiz, B.C.

Ludwigsen won the motorcycle title on his KTM 125. Ludwigsen, a junior at Lynden Christian High School, is a diabetic and returned to racing after suffering a broken leg in May.

LOCAL GOLFER PLAYS IN QUALIFIER

James Hawley of Bellingham was one of 33 golfers to participate in a sectional qualifier for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship on Aug. 30 at Cle Elum.

Hawley finished with a two-round total of 40-43-83 that was 11 strokes behind winner Kevin Pomarleau of East Wenatchee. The qualifier was held at Rope Rider course at the Suncadia Resort.
