SUDDEN VALLEY - Law enforcement responded to Sudden Valley en masse Friday night, Sept. 2, after a number of residents called to report gunshots throughout the area, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

The sound most likely was fireworks that someone was lighting off from a car while driving through Sudden Valley.

Residents began calling police after 10:30 p.m., reporting that they heard a car stopping, multiple gunshots, and then a car speeding off. In some cases, callers saw what looked like a man firing a gun from his car.

Deputies on scene couldn't find any evidence of gunfire - no shell casings or bullet holes. They did find evidence that someone had been driving from one end of Sudden Valley to the other lighting firecrackers along the way.
