Amney Burpee celebrated her 100th birthday August 29, surrounded by family and friends. Her grandfather reached the age of 101 and her mother 104. Amney was at Pearl Harbor the day it was bombed in 1941, giving birth to her son, David, who was born that evening. Amney, born in Castle Rock, WA, lived in a variety of places as an Army wife, and has lived in Bellingham for 9 years. Amney has 2 sons, David of Springfield, VA and Bruce of Deming, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. A central theme of her life has been the consid- eration of the needs of other people over her own needs.
