A Tacoma police officer on his way to an accident call was hurt Wednesday when a car clipped his motorcycle on South 38th Street.

The 51-year-old officer’s foot injuries were not considered life-threatening. He was conscious and talking before he was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

The crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. near South 38th and Fife streets. The car, heading west on South 38th Street, was changing lanes when its front corner hit the side of the police motorcycle, Fulghum said.

The officer, a 22-year veteran of the force, was going east on South 38th Street with the motorcycle’s emergency lights on but not the siren, Fulghum said.
