BELLINGHAM - A 25-year-old Seattle man was arrested for disorderly conduct early Tuesday, Aug. 23, after he smashed into and shattered the window of a Rite Aid store during a fight, causing about $1,000 worth of damage.
Shortly after midnight, police responded to a call that two men, Eliot Sherman and a 25-year-old Ferndale man, had been fighting in the 1400 block of Cornwall Avenue, said Bellingham Police spokesman Mark Young. Police believe the two men had been drinking at the Bellingham Bar and Grill, where they started arguing.
The argument escalated and moved about a block down the street, Young said. At its peak, the argument turned violent and Sherman crashed into the plate-glass window of Rite Aid, 1400 Cornwall Ave.
Police found Sherman near where the glass had been shattered. He was injured but not badly enough to need to go to the hospital. At first he told police he had been attacked, but as he was interviewed further, police determined he was likely the primary aggressor, Young said.
Sherman was cited for disorderly conduct.
A judge will decide who has to pay for the broken window.
