BELLINGHAM - A former NFL player was arrested in Bellingham Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 17, in a prostitution sting.
Daren John Heerspink, 27, of Lynden was arrested without incident by Bellingham Police about 2 p.m., after he responded to an ad for prostitution that was posted online by an undercover officer, said police spokesman Mark Young.
Heerspink showed up to an undisclosed location where he apparently expected to find a prostitute but instead was met by officers, Young said.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound tackle had brief stints with the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams in 2008 and 2009. He signed with the Canadian Football League's B.C. Lions after being cut by the Rams. He was the starting left tackle for the Lions for about a year before he was released.
Heerspink was born in Bellingham, graduated from Lynden Christian High School and played college football at Portland State. He currently lives in Lynden.
Two other people were arrested earlier in the day on charges of patronizing prostitution. Bellingham Police periodically conduct undercover prostitution stings.
