One man was hurt and another was arrested Friday evening after a crash on Canyon Road East just north of the state Route 512 overpass.

Witnesses said that just before 5 p.m. a Hummer traveling 60 to 70 miles per hour was passing other drivers in the left-turn lane of Canyon Road, Pierce County sheriff’s deputies reported.

Deputies suspect the driver had been drinking.

Near 104th Street East, the Hummer hit a car on its driver’s side, spinning it out of control and into another vehicle, deputies reported. The car’s driver, a 55-year-old Puyallup man, was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma for treatment of contusions and a collapsed lung.

The Hummer didn’t stop, and deputies later found it near 112th Street East and Canyon Road East. They arrested the 22-year-old driver on suspicion of vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run.
