BELLINGHAM - The Pickford Film Center and the Whatcom Humane Society will present the documentary film "Pigmalion" at noon Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10.

"Pigmalion" is about an 800-pound Yorkshire pig named Lisa that was surrendered to the Whatcom Humane Society in January 2010 after repeatedly breaking out of her fenced enclosure.

The documentary, which was created by Clay for Earth Productions, is about 30 minutes long and will be followed by a screening of the classic pig movie "Babe."

Fifty percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will go toward the Whatcom Humane Society's farm animal program and the care of unwanted, abused and abandoned livestock, horses and other animals.

In 2010, the Whatcom Humane Society cared for 27 horses, two sheep, two llamas, 26 goats, two cows, 67 chickens, three peacocks, six domestic geese, one donkey and five pigs, including Lisa, Executive Director Laura Clark said.

In May 2010, the Humane Society gave Lisa to Sanctuary One, a nonprofit farm sanctuary in southern Oregon's Rogue River Valley.

"Lisa is a love bug," said Sanctuary One's animal care manager, Sansa Collins. "She loves people and loves to have her belly rubbed."

While most of Sanctuary One's animals are up for adoption, Collins said Lisa will live on their farm for the rest of her life.

"She'll stay on as an ambassador," Collins said.
